Comparison pages that AI assistants can cite

Published · Last updated

As of October 2026, comparison pages are one of the page types AI assistants most often cite in our experience, because people ask assistants "X versus Y" questions. A page that answers one fairly, with sources and a date, gives an assistant something it can safely repeat.

What makes one citable

  • A short answer at the top that says what each product is built for.
  • Facts about the other product taken from that company's own pages, with a link and the date you checked.
  • The same rows for both products in a side-by-side table.
  • A fair account of where the other product is strong.
  • Real questions answered in plain sentences.

Keep it honest

Prices and plans change. Say when you checked, and tell readers to confirm on the vendor's page before they buy. Do not invent quotes, ratings or certifications, and do not state a fact you did not check.

Make sure crawlers can read it

A comparison page that is built in the browser is invisible to crawlers that skip JavaScript. Give each page its own address, its own canonical link, a place in your sitemap and a link from a hub page.

What this does not tell you

Which comparisons to write first, how many facts to check for each page, and how to keep a whole set of pages current as vendors change.
